Good Food News-A Celebration of Syrian Cuisine

In Good Food News this story from Saveur magazine makes me very very happy, and very very hungry. Nihal Elwan founded Tayybeh: A Celebration of Syrian Cuisine in Vancouver BC. Dinners are held every six to eight weeks, typically selling out the 150-seat feasts within hours. Attendees support recently arrived refugees. And for the Syrian women who prepare the food, it is a way to develop the skills they need in a new country, like learning English, navigating public transit, and building up a resume.

I know that I want to attend, not only to support these skilled immigrants, but to try muttabal shamandar, a velvety dip fragrant with beets, tahini, and olive oil. Like I said, happy and hungry.
